Lake Minnetonka, located in Hennepin County, Minnesota, covers 14,000 hectares and reaches a maximum depth of one hundred and thirteen meters. Lake Minnetonka has always been a tourist destination, still enjoys a large number of fishing tournaments each year. The species of fish can be caught in Lake Minnetonka are sunfish, northern pike, yellow perch, walleye and muskie.
Lake Minnetonka it was formed nearly 11,000 years. Blocks of ice has melted to form Lake Minnetonka, but has only received its name in 1852, since then the Governor of Minnesota Alexander Ramsey. The first groups of people known to be established on Lake Minnetonka is Cheyenne, Iowa and Dakota Sioux, Ojibwa Indians. They view forests in areas of high esteem as a spiritual place and its cemeteries. Joseph Brown and Will Snelling were the first Europeans to reach Lake Minnetonka in 1822. In 1853, the Minnetonka Hotel was built near the lake, and in 1861 the Governor Ramsey, first steamship Minnetonka, has been released. After the Civil War Lake Minnetonka became a popular tourist destination, and in 1889, the Minnetonka Yacht Club of research and study, when The Gray Freshwater Biological Institute, on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. The institute was later given to the University of Minnesota. There is now a museum near Lake Minnetonka. The museum focuses on Lake Minnetonka, local businesses, Excelsior High School and Excelsior Amusement Park. The Museum is Lake Minnetonka Open May to September.
Even today people can not get enough of Lake Minnetonka. The beauty of Lake Minnetonka is too large to be ignored. There are a number of different cruise ships available throughout the Lake Minnetonka. Most of these boat cruises are very affordable. Many of them offer tourists with restaurants, bar services and full services supported by a large number of trained professionals. A number of these boat cruises are able to form groups of ten people in all the way to eighty people. Lake Minnetonka is also appreciated for racing yachts.
