Metal Casting is more than an excuse to play with molten metal is actually a great way to create art and complicated pieces of machinery or other items which otherwise would be almost impossible. Metal Casting is really a great way to save money … while playing with molten metal.
The reason that Metal Casting has survived the test of time is a matter of efficiency. Some of the earliest examples of cast iron have been found in China dating back thousands of years. For artists creating small statues or embellishes and for fans who need a decorative touch to your model airplane or boat could consider using the gravity of their quality needs.
Gravity casting seems to be particularly useful when it is aluminum and other light alloys. The basic idea behind this casting process is almost exactly what its name implies. The metal is introduced into the mold by the force of gravity. More casting processes others may use both natural and pressure difference of the class in certain sand casting procedures or use forced pressure like in the molten metal into the mold centrifugal casting.
One of the most common uses for gravity casting is when permanent molds are going to use. Also called a die, permanent mold is really only economical for those planning to use the same mold several times and have to maintain a constant quality. While some temporary molds can be repeatedly used the quality of the finished product will start to suffer over time.
